My first assignment in Iceland was to photograph a play by the theater group LabLoki, called Ufsagrýlur or Gargoyles. It´s a great play by an Icelandic writer called Sjón and performed at the Hafnarfjarðarleikhúsið.

The poster and program was designed by me and my friends Thorri and Linda at Hringbrot.

One of the most fun shoots this summer was a shoot I did for Shi Studio. Shi Studio, based in Victoria BC, designs jewelry and accessories. They have beautiful products for both men and women.

We decided to shoot the outdoors scenes at dusk on a great summer day. Using the golden hour to capture the models and the product in the late daylight.

Lately I have been getting a lot of requests for technical information. Without going into to much detail(I am lazy) here goes:

Outside shoot. One AlienBee 800 Octagon softbox, stripped for harder light. Powered by a really long extension cord to a converter attached to a car. Should really get a nice portable battery unit! Everything shot with a Canon 5D – Canon 24-70 2.8 and Canon 16-45 MII 2.8.

Studio. 3 AlienBee softboxes, square ones for back, side and hair and an Octagon softbox for front fill. Same camera and lenses as outside.

Summer is sweet, busy but sweet. I have done some interesting assignments this summer but all of them are still in post production, have not yet been published or used. So I cant either.
I moved out to the country last month, 30km from Victoria to the beautiful Metchosin. Enjoying it thoroughly and doing a lot of personal stuff.
BCoutside is busy as always check it out for some fresh stories and photography, lot of new stuff will be there in the next couple of weeks.

Isabella and Oluna, Metchosin BC

A couple of friends and I, just launched BCoutside.com it is an Online Magazine on Active Lifestyle and Travel. Medium to long articles on all kinds of subjects that have a common denominator, being outside. Check it out and visit often, as it will be updated on a very regular basis.
The idea is to share the vast library of prose and photography that we collect through our travels in this beautiful province. We are always open to stories with photos from other outdoor enthusiasts, so if you want to contribute send me an email with your ideas.

I have quietly been building myself a portfolio website, the link to it has been here on the right hand side for some time. So those few that come here by often have with out a doubt paid it a visit.

I’ve been in an experimental phase in the last days and one of the things I have tried is tethered timed shooting. I attached a 5D to an iMac with a USB cable and used Canon Eos Utility to control the camera. You can set the intervals and how many images to be taken total. Actually you can also control the aperture, shutterspeed, ISO, WB, kind of file and the exposure metering.
For my shot I chose a flower in a vase, dying. I shot it during 5 days with 10 minute intervals. It is lit with two lights, a softbox above and an umbrella in front 45 degrees to the left.
After all the photography was done I assembled the movie in Adobe Flash, flash even imports the images in a right order, each on its own keyframe. Pretty handy for this kind of work.

Small but strong

It´s been 9 months since me and 2 friends started our company International Independent Imaging. It has been a crazy time, with exciting things happening and a lot of experience gathered.
We are very pleased with how things are going and look forward to a phenomenal 2009.
During this time we have had very little time for manufacturing promotional materials and our website has been a victim of that lack of time.
No more, as iii-imaging.com has not had a face-lift more of a face transplant. New design, new photos and new content grace our pages as never before so head on over and check it out.

Just have to comment about this new MacBook Air. Thats one fine piece of gadgetry! Drool, damn my old PowerBook has to find a resting place. Now where was that hammer…
