Jöklar – Glaciers

Again working for the theater, now designing and photographing for a very special performance called Jöklar or Glaciers. It is a play that is performed in 4 locations in Iceland, brodcasted live on the internet and in a movie theatre. Pretty ambitious production and great to be a part of. The play will be opened on Friday at 8 o´clock and can be seen on the web at Herbergi408.is

This is a video I made for kortaþjónustan hf – it´s a documentary/advertisement highlighting a unlawful cooperation of the two main creditcard companies in Iceland against kortaþjónustan.
It was pretty involved as I made the music, shot the stills and the video, designed the graphics and edited it. Check out the website kortasamrad.is

It is shot on a Canon 5D mark II, with 85mm 1.2 – Canon 24-70mm 2.8 and 70-200mm 2.8

Lakagígar / Laki craters

The Laki craters or Laka gígar are in south Iceland, south of Langisjór and west of the biggest glacier in Iceland, Vatnajökull.

It is truly a spectacular place to visit, with craters, strange mountains, lakes, and colours one would think impossible in nature.
In June I drove there with my family and a friend, we stayed for one night and spent the evening exploring the crater area, driving along dirt and gravel roads through the lava fields and up hills with vast views in every direction. The day after we took the eastern route back, a less travelled road and much harder. The road was washed out in a couple of places but nothing could stop the Land Rover Defender, he chugged along slowly but surely, great vehicles.
The Laki craters area is a National Park and has a dedicated camping spot in Bláfell. The official website is here.

Gargoyles – Ufsagrýlur

My first assignment in Iceland was to photograph a play by the theater group LabLoki, called Ufsagrýlur or Gargoyles. It´s a great play by an Icelandic writer called Sjón and performed at the Hafnarfjarðarleikhúsið.

The poster and program was designed by me and my friends Thorri and Linda at Hringbrot.

Light at dusk

“Light at dusk” could be the English translation of the title of this book “Birtan í Húminu”. A book of poems by Canadian poets.
It was published by The Reykjavik International Literary Festival and features poets that have won the Griffin Poetry Prize, among them A.F. Moritz, C.D. Wright and Michael Ondaatje.
I had the honour of having one of my Photos on the cover.

RCMP Musical Ride

Did an assignment for PNR shooting the RCMP Musical Ride last weekend. It was a fun event with sky divers, Scottish Pipers and of course the RCMP Musical Ride. Great to see the RCMP in their distinctive red uniforms and the Musical Ride was pretty amazing.

I often wondered how they managed not to injure themselves – a big group flying about on big horses with spears in their hands sounds like a recipe for disaster but the Musical Riders pulled it off gracefully and in style. Great show.

Whistler

Me and Greg Miller went to Whistler to cover Chill on the Hill, for BCoutside.com – Had a fun time and some good shots. Look for a story on it on BCoutside.com tomorrow.
On the way back we got some crazy BC weather, went from 38 degrees in Whistler to a mixture of Sun, rain and strong winds when arriving on Vancouver Island. Made for a pretty sunset.

Lightning storm over Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains

Summer is sweet, busy but sweet. I have done some interesting assignments this summer but all of them are still in post production, have not yet been published or used. So I cant either.
I moved out to the country last month, 30km from Victoria to the beautiful Metchosin. Enjoying it thoroughly and doing a lot of personal stuff.
BCoutside is busy as always check it out for some fresh stories and photography, lot of new stuff will be there in the next couple of weeks.
