Summer is sweet, busy but sweet. I have done some interesting assignments this summer but all of them are still in post production, have not yet been published or used. So I cant either.
I moved out to the country last month, 30km from Victoria to the beautiful Metchosin. Enjoying it thoroughly and doing a lot of personal stuff.
BCoutside is busy as always check it out for some fresh stories and photography, lot of new stuff will be there in the next couple of weeks.
I have begun Twittering, follow me on Twitter if you Tweet, it´s fun. http://twitter.com/SnorriGunnarsso

Photoshop and post-production of images is such a hot topic. The newest example is from Denmark where a series of images from Haiti by Klavs Bo Christensen were deemed as too post processed. The judges in the The Danish Union of Press Photographers – Picture of The Year competition ruled Klavs photos out of the competition after comparing them with their RAW counterparts. The images are certainly not flat, dull or colour-less and some of them verge on that line between reality and illustration, a good or a bad thing depending on ones taste. Still I think it is unbelievably unfair to judge them by the RAW files, converted without any enhancements what so ever.
A RAW file is just that – raw. If one shoots in jpg, the camera will enhance the photo by sharpening, increasing the contrast and so on. Often people have parameters set that govern how it looks. The purpose of RAW is to keep all the info, so that later the photographer can develop it. Once it was done in the darkroom, today it is Lightroom, Aperture or Photoshop – the digital darkrooms.
Klavs Bo Christensen makes a good point when he says that from now on he´s only submitting B&W photos for competitions. For some reason the heavy Dodge and Burn look is accepted in B&W images, even celebrated.

Vancouver Island holds many treasures; some are among the most popular outdoor places in Canada, like the West Coast Trail. Others are just as magnificent but hidden because of difficult access. The result is often a pristine place, where everything is undisturbed, peaceful but strangely mysterious, Tahsish-Kwois is one of those places, like a lost Valley in the deepest inlet of Kyoqout Sound.
It is no mean feat to get to Tahsish-Kwois, first there are logging roads with their potholes and winding hairpins, 80km from Woss to the Artlish River. The only reasonable way into the park is by water and the easiest access to the water is by an abindoned logging camp near the Artlish river mouth. Read the whole story on BCoutside.com

My “new” Konica Hexanon Mark III

I am a geek, have always been and always will be and I am proud of it! Photography is very geek friendly, new products everyday and videos and write-ups galore about things and gadgets. The biggest newest gadget is the Canon EOS 1DS Mark III. Its been a while since it was anounced but reviews are filtering out on the web these days. The stats for this thing are astounding and the price tag is also kind of mind boggling, for mere mortals at least.

I think this blows every DSLR out of the water and probably some of the older Medium Formats with Digital Backs.
This camera will definitely go on my Christmas wish list, my wife will probably get me a sweater though.

I’ve decided to weigh in on the 12 most important issues and debates in photography. I´ll keep it short and clear.

Nikon vs Canon
A year ago, Canon= Full frame. Today? Does not matter. Whatever floats your boat. Get an old Leica.

Apple vs Microsoft
Since Bootcamp I do not see the need for anything else but Apple. Our Steve thou art in heaven…

Photoshop
A guru? Use it – Dont know anything? Stop whining.

Lightroom vs Aperture
Got a mac pro with 8 gigs of ram? Use Aperture, for everyone else its Lightroom.

Amateurs vs Pro´s
Who ever gets the job is the Pro.

Microstock
Do you think your photo is worth 20 cents? Go for Microstock.

Criticism
Cant handle it? Stop showing your work.

Film vs Digital
Who cares.
